Miamber has over 35 years of breeding experience of our wonderful felines. You will find we have an impeccable reputation for being honest and ethical registered breeders. As an All Shorthair judge I am more than qualified to select our breeding stock for their beautiful appearance, as well as the best in temperament, personality and resilience. We stand behind our breeding, always have, and always will.

We are not the cheapest, nor are we the most expensive, but families coming back in each generation to get another Miamber or Blackglama kitten is testament to our reputation.

Kittens will stay with us until at least 13-14 weeks of age, this is to minimise stress on immature immune systems by spreading out the process of vaccination, desexing and relocation to another home.

All kittens and puppies will leave with an immediate FREE 30 days Insurance Policy with Trupanion.

Yes, we can send your kitten to you on the plane, please ask for costs, we can provide very reasonably priced flights.

Your kittens pricing includes desexing, microchipping direct into your name, pedigree in your name, age appropriate vaccination and a Royal Canin Kitten Pack which includes a free bag of Royal Canin kitten food and further 25% discount vouchers.

We know scammers proliferate on the internet and that you need reassurance we are the genuine article . If you require confirmation that our kittens do actually exist I can do Whattsapp Video calls where you can see the kitten live. You can also Google the Miamber and Blackglama Prefixes and contact the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy of South Australia for confirmation I am a legitimate registered breeder.

Visiting the Kittens

If you would like to visit our cattery, please keep in mind that this is limited and we have strict policies in place to ensure the health of our cats and kittens and the safety of our home and those living in it.  Our facility  is a Closed Cattery. There are many reasons we have made this hard decision. We understand this may seem strange for some searching pet owners, but this decision was thoroughly thought through. We hope the following will give you some insight and ease your concerns as to why we made this decision:

1. Our cattery is physically in our home so while this is a business of sorts and we don't have kids any more this is our home so that is first and foremost important.

2. Illness and disease can spread fast. While you can control the cats you bring in through testing (PCR, screenings, blood tests, exams etc.) that is much harder with potential families and their pets. Viruses and bacteria that young kittens are very susceptible to can very easily be tracked into our facility.

3. We socialize extensively but when hormones are involved in, pregnant queens and their babies could be extremely stressed out even if they only can hear new people in the home.

4. There unfortunately are many new reports of robbery, threats, stalking, murder of cattery, kennels and breeders over various situations for various reasons, I myself have been burgled by people posing as buyers. We personally don't want to take these risks anymore.

That being said transparency is still really important to us. We take pictures weekly and provide weekly live videos in our home (so you see most of it anyway) . We also do facetime tours and meetings and phone calls.  It's important to know that not all breeders that are closed catteries are shady or trying to hide something. Most are just trying to keep their families and their cats safe.It should be noted we do not provide stud services. We do not allow outside cats into our cattery nor send out our cats to breed. We are happy to provide plenty of pictures, video walkthrough, skype sessions and answer any questions you may have about us, the cattery or the cats and kittens in an attempt to not only be transparent, but to keep our cats and kittens free from illness and disease as well as other unforeseen issue.

Pricing

Unfortunately, there have been some substantial price increases in food, vet and litter costs in the past three years. I have not put any price increase in place since 2021, however I will be forced to do so in 2025. Even the postage costs of my carry boxes have increased by over 100%. However in comparison to some other breeds, which are commonly available around the country, mine are very reasonably priced.

Burmilla Shorthair $2000

Burmilla Longhair $2500.00

Mandalay Black $2250.00

Live in another state?

Freight can be organised for very reasonable rates at purchasers expense, we use Moorholme Pet Transport. Kittens travel well, we have been sending kittens by plane for over 30 years. You will require an airline approved carry box which we can sell to you at a reasonable price.

Waiting for that Special Kitten

We do operate a Waiting List for people who are happy to wait for a kitten bred by us, buyers on that list get priority on kitten offers.  If you are shopping around or are not fussed as to which breeder you acquire your kitten from then there is no need to join our Waiting List. Once you are offered a kitten we require a $200.00 Holding Fee with the balance due prior to the desexing of the kitten. *Please note that the Holding Fee is NON-REFUNDABLE if you simply change your mind. The Holding Fee can be transferable to a different litter if necessary. .

Please feel free to inquire if we have kittens available.

Return & Refund Policy

If the Buyer is unable to keep the cat, for any reason, at any time, the Buyer may return and surrender the Cat to the Seller, we will always welcome our kittens back or assist in rehoming. Please understand that we are unable to offer refunds in this situation as there are costs involved in housing returned cats/kittens.

Why we breed Burmilla and Mandalay

Many of you may have have wondered what a Mandalay or Burmilla is, why we mixed British or Persian with a Burmese to create these new breeds.

Outcross breeding began with scientist Gregor Mendel who experimented with outcrossing pea plant flowers to analyze the patterns and function of inheritance (1) between 1856 and 1863.

An outcross program is one that brings in other established breeds to integrate into a breed. This may seem weird but there is a VERY good purpose for this. Another benefit of an outcross program is genetic diversity. By introducing genes outside the usual gene pool, the breeds gene pool is increased. The Coefficient of Inbreeding or COI is further reduced as well. Kittens produced from these carefully selected outcrosses also are often healthier, have healthier birth weights and fertility. Charles Darwin had also noted these adaptations as well in his studies

There is a fantastic article from Royal Canin's Journal "Veterinary Force" that goes hand in hand with our breeding program. It goes in-depth into the importance of genetic diversity within a breeding program and its impact on the overall health, wellness, and longevity of a breed.

At the Fred Scott Symposium at Cornell University in July of 2019 we learned that "Cats with a greater genetic diversity are at a lesser risk of FIP development. Breeding programs should focus on increasing diversity for stronger inherited immune systems to help prevent allowing FECV to mutate into FIPV & FIP. (50% of which is statistically inherited)"

An outcross program is many things but a few things it is not.
The cats selected for outcrossing are very carefully selected which involves avoiding the pairing of cats with recessive mutations. A responsible and ethical Breeder does not simply stick two cats together. Type and important characteristics are evaluated, health is a top priority, recording observations and testing are all part of properly, safely and establishing a quality outcross program. These programs require careful planning, coordination, and leadership, requiring a strong personal and financial commitment. Our Burmilla  program has been in progress for 24 years and our Mandalay program for 12 years.
